The ‘Bus Pirate’ is a universal bus interface that talks to most chips from a PC serial terminal, eliminating a ton of early prototyping effort when working with new or unknown chips. Many serial protocols are supported at 0-5.5volts, more can be added.

LED
- PWR indicates power to the Bus Pirate.
- MODE is off when the I/O pins are in a safe, high-impedance state. MODE is lit when a bus mode is engaged, the pins may be active.
- VREG indicates that the on-board switchable power supplies are active.
- UR is a single USB activity indicator LED. It displays data coming from the PC to the Bus Pirate. You can probably change what this LED displays with the FTDI configuration utility.
ブートローダ
Connect the PGD and PGC pins of the ICSP header to trigger the bootloader (A). A standard 0.1″ jumper works best, but any conductive material will work. The PIC flips the PGD pin high and low 20 times, if PGC matches PGD then the bootloader starts. If there’s no connection between PGC and PGD, then the normal Bus Pirate firmware starts.

アップデート
- BPv3-v2blupdaterVa3-v4.1.hexはブートローダのアップデート用プログラム。
- 書き込んでから実行する必要がある。
- ブートローダのアドレスは0×400 and 0×0bfeなので書き込み後のその範囲のVerifyエラーは無視
- アップデータを書き込んだ後にターミナルで接続しても変な文字が出力されたので壊れたかと思ったけどボーレート115.2kで接続したらちゃんと見れた。

STK500 v2
- ファームウェアを入れ替えるとSTK500互換のAVRライタになる。
- vx-STK500-vx.hex is a replacement for the normal Bus Pirate firmware.
